F1, Ferrari: Frederic Vasseur’s hopes for the Hungarian GP
He sees the glass half full Frederic Vasseur, team principal of Ferrari, as he approaches the Hungarian Grand Prix at the Hungaroring circuit eleventh race of the F1 world championship, so far dominated by Max Verstappen’s Red Bull.
“We arrive in Budapest determined to continue the path of growth started in the last few races with the introduction of technical updates on the SF-23,” says Vasseur. “At Silverstone things did not go as we hoped, but in Canada and Austria we made clear steps forward, and in Hungary we believe the conditions are in place to give Charles and Carlos a performing car.
“Both drivers love the Hungaroring track and have prepared the race down to the smallest detail, especially qualifying, which always plays a key role here,” added Vasseur. “This weekend, for the first time, all teams have to deal with a different format, with only one compulsory compound to be used in each of the three stages of qualifying.
This change, according to Vasseur, “adds another variable to watch carefully, given how close the values are between most teams. We expect to fight close to the leaders on Saturday and Sunday.”
