Pistoia introduces Hawkins, Brienza: “It will be very important.”

Pistoia in a statement announced the arrival of forward Ryan Hawkins, the third non-EU acquisition for the 2023/24 championship.

“We are very happy with the signing of Ryan,” said Pistoia coach Nicola Brienza. “He is a player who, in the team idea we have, will play a very important role: he has an excellent outside shot and a very high basketball intelligence that can be functional for the improvement of the teammates themselves.

“In addition, and I do not consider this any less relevant, both in his years in college and in his experience in the G-League, he has made defense his trademark, as well as being appreciated by all his coaches for the great defensive grit and positive spirit that he is able to transmit to his teammates. These are characteristics that are best embodied in the spirit that has been an integral part of our group these past two years-we look forward to seeing and getting to know him here in Pistoia.”

Ryan Hawkins also released his first words, “I am really excited to start my first season in Italy and with Pistoia Basket, the goal I have set for myself is to help the team achieve all the goals it sets for this league and bring many victories that will make our fans happy. From a personal point of view, however, I must say that I am particularly intrigued by this kind of opportunity, the first away from the United States, where there will be to explore a different cultural experience and way of life than what I am used to on this side of the Ocean. I am pumped up and ready to take the field.”
