Jannik Sinner: Mats Wilander makes illustrious comparisons and warns Alcaraz
Tennis legend Mats Wilander identified Jannik Sinner as the greatest future danger to Carlos Alcaraz in an interview with El Mundo.
“I think Sinner will be the most dangerous for him in the future. Carlos can suffer with hard hitters, but it is not at all easy to play the way Sinner does. Rune for example doesn’t hit hard enough, I think Sinner is the man.”
“Sinner reminds me of Ivan Lendl and Jim Courier: he’s a tennis player who doesn’t have too much natural instinct, but he’s willing to build himself up and grow through hard work. Another example of this type of athlete is Andy Murray. Right now in any case there are no players with enough consistency to beat Carlos. Except for one clearly, Novak Djokovic.”
Wilander then analyzed Alcaraz: “He reminds me of Federer because of the delicacy of his forehand, Djokovic because of his backhand, and Nadal because of his passion. He watched the big boys and learned, he is an addictive tennis player. Tennis could not have gotten a better player.”
