Jasmine Paolini defeated in final in Palermo

No fourth WTA title for Jasmine Paolini. The Tuscan tennis player was defeated in the final in Palermo by China’s Zheng Qinwen, 20, who captured the first tournament of her career on the circuit.

The Azzurra succumbed with the scores of 4-6, 6-1, 1-6 after two and a quarter hours of a seesaw match.Paolini, who lost the first set after finding herself immediately down by two breaks, reacted in the second partial by winning 6-1 thanks also to her opponent’s many free serves.

In the third, however, Zheng got back on track and closed out the match: from next week she will enter the world Top 20 for the first time in her career.

Jasmine Paolini, class of 1996, has won three career titles: in 2021 she won in Croatia in Bol and in Slovenia in Portoroz; this year she had won in Florence.
