“Umana Reyer is pleased to announce the signing of Barry Brown Jr, a 191-centimeter point guard from Metropolitans 92.
A child of the art, Brown Jr. was born Dec. 21, 1996, in St. Petersburg, Florida, USA, and began playing basketball at the age of five, leading Gibbs High School to a regional title in high school.
He then chooses to study at Kansas State by wearing a Wildcats jersey for four academic years, and in 2018 he was a key contributor to the Elite Eight, eliminating Kentucky in the Sweet 16. In 2019, he was named NCAA Division I Big 12 Conference Defensive Player of the Year, having already been named to the best defensive quintet the year before.
The 2019/20 season is his first as a professional and he wears the jersey of the Iowa Wolves, the Minnesota Timberwolves’ G League team with which he records a season high of 35 points against the South Bay Lakers.
In July 2020 he signs in Germany for Riesen Ludwigsburg while in 2022 he briefly wears the Beijing Ducks uniform in the Chinese Basketball Association.
The 2022/23 season is full of excitement for Brown Jr. because with the New Zealand Breakers he goes all the way to the bottom of the NBL championship, playing a resounding Game 4 of the finals against Sydney (20 points and 9 fouls conceded) and winning the sixth man of the year award. Also, in May 2023 he transferred to Metropolitans 92 with whom he played the last regular season and playoff games recording 13 points, 2 rebounds and 2 assists per game, with 49% from 2 and 48% from 3. Brown Jr. was decisive in Game 2 of the semifinals with L’ASVEL with a buzzer-beater three-pointer that gave them the win and the provisional 2-0 lead in the series.
Finally, Barry Brown Jr. just competed in the Summer League in Las Vegas playing in the base quintet for the Phoenix Suns.
