World Superbike World Championship loses a piece
No weekend in Argentina for World Superbike 2023
The organizers of the 2023 World Superbike Championship have announced the cancellation of the Argentine Round, scheduled for the last weekend of races on October 14 and 15. Given the importance of the event, they are reasoning about replacing it with another circuit: in the front row would be Jerez, which has been missing from the calendar since 2020.
The reasons for the cancellation, according to the note published by Dorna WSBK Organization, are related to the proximity in terms of dates with the elections in the San Juan area: “Given the proximity in terms of dates with the elections at the national and provincial level, Dorna WSBK Organization (DWO), Grupo OSD (which promotes the Argentine event, ed.) and the administration of San Juan have chosen not to have the event held at the San Juan Villicum circuit.”
“The Round was scheduled on the eve of a government transition in the same province: it was therefore decided to respect the local political context, thus allowing for proper planning for events of the magnitude of the World Superbike Championship.”
The 2023 World Championship is so far dominated by Alvaro Bautista, who riding the Ducati Panigale V4R has collected 391 points in the first seven Rounds. The only credible opponent is Yamaha rider Toprak Razgatlioglu, who has 321 points and recovered 28 of them over the Imola weekend, also taking advantage of Bautista’s crash in Race 2 at the Enzo and Dino Ferrari-dedicated circuit. There are 5 rounds (10 races and 5 Superpole Races) to go until the end of the Championship, provided a solution is found to sostutuire the last weekend of the season.
