F1, Lewis Hamilton: Toto Wolff speaks out on the renewal issue
Toto Wolff is sure: Lewis Hamilton will renew with Mercedes
In the midst of the so-called “Silly season,” which in Formula 1 characterizes all the market rumors that inflame the summer between races, Toto Wolff intervened to have his say, rather categorically, on Lewis Hamilton’s future and in particular on his renewal with Mercedes, which, in fact, has not yet been formalized.
“The situation is this,” the Mercedes team boss told ‘Sky Sports Uk,’ “We have not signed the contract on paper but emotionally we have, in the sense that we know very well what we want to do and we just have to optimize it. The salary? Money is not the point.”
The partnership between Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes was born in 2013, in the aftermath of Hamilton’s farewell to McLaren, with which he had won the 2008 World Championship: after a first season of transition, the Stevenage champion then won six titles in seven years, before the advent of Max Verstappen, to whom he had contested the 2021 title until the last corner of the last GP, in Abu Dhabi.
Several times the name of Ferrari was mentioned as Hamilton’s next destination: despite the fact that the driver himself has never hidden that he is a fan of the Maranello company (on a general level, not only talking about racing), the suggestive hypothesis has so far never materialized.
