Inter Miami, Lionel Messi puts on a show
After scoring a goal on a free kick in the recovery of the match against Cruz Azul in the first League Cup game, Lionel Messi did even better last night, scoring a brace at Atlanta United in the 4-0 win by which Inter Miami captured its second consecutive victory.
The world champion also added an assist for Robert Taylor, who in turn scored two goals. His contribution sparked the team, which was last in the MLS standings before his arrival.
And ‘Messi-mania’ mounts among fans in Florida, including the VIPs who are now a constant presence at the Fort Lauderdale facility. It took only 22 minutes for the Argentine star to make his mark, first by repeating into the net a left-footed shot that he himself had sent against the post, then by finishing off a perfect triangulation with Taylor.
“Playing with him is a dream come true,” commented the Finnish midfielder, “He brings so much quality to the pitch that we all benefit from it.
