Jaylen Brown renews with Boston Celtics
Jaylen Brown has extended a record $304 million (275 million euros) five-year contract with the Boston Celtics at the end of weeks of negotiations, according to U.S. media reports.
It is the largest contract in NBA history, much larger than the $264 million, or 239 million, contract signed last year by Denver Nuggets pivot Nikola Jokic. The 26-year-old two-time All Star has been a pillar of the Celtics’ success in recent years, helping the team reach the playoffs for seven consecutive seasons.
Brown’s new contract guarantees him to stay in Boston until the end of the 2028-2029 season. This extension obtained after several weeks of negotiations comes when Brown had one year left on his current contract, which will earn him $31.8 million (28.8 million euros) for the 2023-2024 season.
In 2022-2023, Brown averaged a career-best 26.6 points, 6.9 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game, forming a feared offensive pairing with Jayson Tatum.
