An entire city and beyond puts pressure on Jannik Sinner
Big cheer, and pressure, for Jannik Sinner
With 109 days to go before the start of the Nitto ATP Finals 2023, scheduled to take place in Turin on the indoor court of the Pala Alpitour, Angelo Binaghi, president of the Italian Tennis and Padel Federation, took stock of the situation.
“It will be a record edition. The box office results and the sports results tell us that.” The next step, he explained “will be to see an Italian get to the bottom of the Nitto ATP Finals to fight for the title.”
“Foreign demand is very high, so the success of this edition has already been determined by the discovery of Turin, of the territory, and on the other hand by the satisfaction of those who came from abroad in the last two complicated years. Domestic demand has accelerated in recent weeks, it is undeniable that a success of this part of the demand is linked to the qualification of an Italian player, because it would turn hundreds of thousands of spectators into fans and this makes the event immeasurably different,” Binaghi added.
Carlos Alcaraz, world number 1 and fresh winner of Wimbledon 2023, is the only player already mathematically qualified: the Spaniard wants to make up for last year’s disappointment, when he was forced to miss the event due to injury.
