F1, the words of Max Verstappen, Charles Leclerc and Sergio Perez
F1, the statements of the top three finishers in the qualifying of the Belgian GP
Here are the words of the top three finishers in the Belgian Gp qualifying, namely Max Verstappen who took pole position in 1:46.108, ahead of Charles Leclerc and Sergio Perez at 820 and 877 thousandths from the Dutchman, respectively.
Max Verstappen (Red Bull): “On the last lap we were on the limit and the conditions were very tricky. The track was drying quickly and on the last lap of Q2 I didn’t have the confidence to push harder, so I was very lucky to finish 10th. In Q3 I was able to push and risk more. Pole was the best result I could get, even though I will move back a few positions on Sunday. We know the car is fast, and even in these particular conditions we were able to prove it once again. Last year we had a heavier penalty and still managed to hit the target. Tomorrow we will see what the weather will be and what kind of race we will be able to do. I like this circuit, I’ve lapped here many times and I grew up not that far from Spa, so it’s like a second home for me. It was great to see so many fans even though it was hard to hold on with all this rain.”
Charles Leclerc (Ferrari): “It was not a bad qualifying for us especially in these conditions where it is always very complicated to put everything together. I’ve been working a lot for these conditions because I didn’t feel that comfortable until a few races ago, and it seems to have paid off with this effort. We came out a little late for the last attempt, but the pole was definitely not in our grasp because Max was too fast, although we could have been closer. That said, we will start from a very good position on Sunday and see how it goes. The end of Q2 was very complicated, I also had Ocon who had gone to the wall and continued ahead of me, so I had all the pressure on that last lap that I absolutely had to complete. They were not easy conditions, so I am happy, but there will still be a lot of work to do to keep behind the Red Bulls.”
Sergio Perez (Red Bull): “Really very complicated qualifying, I started with the intermediates in very tricky conditions initially. We thought the track would dry faster, but it took a long time, and even in Q3 it remained tricky in some places like Turn 8-9, but it’s good result. It’s a bit of a shame that I couldn’t get past Charles, but in these conditions I think it’s a good result for us.”
