Ferrari off the podium in Spa Sprint Race, words from Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc
Here are statements to Sky Sport from Ferrari drivers Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc, who placed fourth and fifth, respectively, in the Sprint Race of the Belgian Grand Prix at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit thanks to the 5-second penalty imposed on Lewis Hamilton.
Carlos Sainz: “The race was decided on the pit stop, I lost three to four positions that cost me the podium. Things don’t always go as we would like, but we have to move on. The start? Better not to have 20 cars in the pit lane, it’s a very dangerous situation because sooner or later something could happen. We are obliged to mount intermediates, that’s what the track tells us.”
Charles Leclerc: “Unfortunately the box and the strategy complicated things. Sainz was in front so he pitted early, as per the strategy, I couldn’t do much. There was also a problem at the pit stop and I lost 2-3 positions. We didn’t maximize, so when we don’t have the pace we have to maximize the result as much as possible. Difficult to make predictions for tomorrow, when you expect dry it rains and so does the opposite.”
