Volleyball, De Giorgi and doubts about traveling European
Italy is fresh off a fourth-place finish in the Nations League
The men’s volleyball European Championships are scheduled from August 28 to September 14. The 2023 edition is decidedly itinerant with the involvement of as many as four countries, namely Italy, North Macedonia, Bulgaria and Israel. A formula that aims to reach as many volleyball fans as possible but, for the 24 participating teams, will bring complications and significant travel during the unfolding of the event.
“I’m honest, it’s not the best to be moving all the time. But it shows how much desire there is to go into the territory to get known, get involved as much as possible. And when you want to get attention, you have to move without waiting for them to visit you at home. We will enjoy breathing the atmosphere and meeting the fans, so we have a goal: we want to be supplements of happiness, like pasta,” Coach De Giorgi’s words to Corriere dello Sport.
Italy is aiming for a quick redemption at the European Championships, after the fourth place in the Nations League: “The boys are fine. Now they are resting because the last period has been intense, but on Friday we will meet again to start our preparation and we will have 15 days to start working through steps of improvement both in terms of play and character. We are confident, it is a good group that has good values,” De Giorgi’s closing remark.
