Christof Innerhofer starts again in Cervinia
Alpine skiing, training
The men’s World Cup speed team will be on stage in Cervinia for a week of ski training on the Aosta Valley snows. Technical director Massimo Carca has decided to convene eight athletes — busy from Monday, August 7 to Saturday, August 12 — in the last training sessions before the departure for Argentina set for the end of the month.
Present will be Mattia Casse, Nicolò Molteni, Giovanni Franzoni, Benjamin Alliod, Pietro Zazzi, Guglielmo Bosca, Florian Schieder and Christof Innerhofer, accompanied by the pool of federal technicians composed of Lorenzo Galli, Patrick Staudacher and Christian Corradino.
As a reminder, the calendar for the 2023/24 Men’s Alpine Ski World Cup season will open with the new stage in Zermatt/Cervinia: two downhill races scheduled for Nov. 11 and 12. The races will feature 12 downhill and nine super-giants – as far as the fast disciplines are concerned – plus a combined team (downhill heats plus slalom heats) in which two different competitors per nation take part, scheduled in Kitzbuehel. The finals will be split into two weekends in Saalbach, resulting in the calendar being extended by a week.
Sofia Goggia, after the sea, returns to the mountains. The champion from Bergamo has dedicated herself to a summer between leisure and the usual training sessions. After doing so on the various coasts that Italy presents, however, she has now decided to return home. And to send a message to her fans from the most familiar Orobian foothills.
“Beautiful Elba, but the Orobie more so,” Sofia Goggia says in a short video shot in the mountains surrounding her native Bergamo that the ski queen decided to post on Instagram Stories. Identical is the caption of the post, accompanied by a laughing emoji and another with heart-shaped eyes.
The return to Bergamo, moreover, does not coincide with a period of rest for Sofia Goggia. With the ski slopes inevitably closed, in fact, her home mountain has become the ideal terrain for another kind of training: cycling. Curiously enough, the same choice made on the very same vacation previously mentioned in the post: the one on Elba Island.
“Elba Island: bike bike bike bike and also some sea… with goats in caves,” Sofia Goggia had in fact written in an Instagram post last week. There she was shown some videos of her pedaling on the heights of the Tuscan island. “Crazy rides under 30 degrees, but what fun!” she had pointed out in the same post.
In mid-July, on the other hand, Sofia Goggia had gone with her personal coach Luca Agazzi to Cervinia for the second block of ski training after the one at Stelvio two weeks earlier.
