Marco Bezzecchi and Luca Marini disappointed
The words of Marco Bezzecchi
A bitter sweet Sunday for the Mooney VR46 Racing Team at the British GP held today at Silverstone. P7 at the finish line for Luca Marini who scores another solid Top10 finish. Marco Bezzecchi on the other hand is forced to retire after a crash when he was fighting for the podium.
Starting from the sixth box of the grid in dry conditions, Luca struggled to pick up the pace of the very first in the first quarter of the race, but closed on a crescendo also making the most of his riding skills in the rain in mixed conditions. He climbs to 107 points overall in P7 (P2 with 274 points among Teams ed.).
An untimely epilogue instead for Marco, after his pole position and second place in yesterday’s Sprint. Second immediately after the start and in the slipstream of Bagnaia (P1 at that time ed), he crashes on lap 6 and is third in the overall with 167 points.
These are the words of Luca Marini: “In general, I expected a better feeling today and also a different position. I struggled a lot, especially right after the start. When the track is not rubberized, I have no feeling in the rear and I lose a lot in acceleration. I had to give up positions, then the feeling started to be better and, with more rubber on the ground, I did good lap times. It started to rain and I found myself in a fight with other riders, but I couldn’t move up the leaderboard. I expected a different weekend, I lose a lot in acceleration in these conditions, something we have to work a lot on for the future as well.”
Disappointed Marco Bezzecchi: “A real shame, because we missed an important opportunity to be able to hit an important result at the end of a very positive weekend. As soon as I entered the corner, I had a blockage of the front tire. I was in Pecco’s slipstream, so the bike did not stop, but rather picked up even more speed. At the second brake touch then, I lost the front end and could do nothing to avoid the crash. I am going home to put this Sunday behind me and return to the track in Austria with the same pace seen here.”
Final comment from Pablo Nieto: “A difficult Sunday for Marco after a great Saturday with the pole and the podium in the Sprint. This is our sport, anything can happen until the checkered flag and that’s what happened today. A real shame because Marco showed he was competitive in all conditions and could have been fighting for the win. It will definitely be a lesson and I am sure he will be back in Austria in two weeks, motivated to give even more. Well Luca, yesterday he struggled, while today he was able to close well and growing considering also the conditions. Another very solid placing that is the result of his work and that of all the technicians.”
