Jorge Lorenzo, backstory on Valentino Rossi: “Terrifying moment.”

Jorge Lorenzo at the microphones of Dazn spoke about the terrible accident that occurred during the 2020 Austrian Grand Prix between Johann Zarco and Franco Morbidelli, when tragedy came close: Valentino Rossi and Maverick Vinales saw their bikes pass within inches of their heads.

“I remember that moment well,” Lorenzo recounted, “I saw the race on TV and I said to myself ‘thank goodness I retired.’ And I really thought that Valentino was going to announce his retirement after that race.”

“Instead, he continued for another year, but that moment was terrifying. You don’t know who saved him, whether Jesus Christ or another higher being. By inches, really by inches, unbelievable.”

After the race Valentino expressed himself in these terms, “It was the worst risk of my career, I am shaken. I thought it was the helicopter from above. Instead two bullets came: I got a good look at Zarco’s Ducati, while I saw Morbidelli’s bike later in the pictures. The saint of motorcyclists really did a great job today, it was a very dangerous thing.”
