Matteo Berrettini’s outburst to Corriere della Sera struck a chord with many insiders, among them fellow player Nick Kyrgios. The Roman tennis player had spoken about how he was swallowed up by the “darkness” during the difficult months, “It seems to have no end, it seems to swallow you because instead of being still and resting, you dig yourself into an abyss.”

Berrettini had also lashed out at pseudo-fans who attacked him on social media, turning into haters: “It seemed unfair that, for something pertaining to my physique, I had to ingest so much nastiness.”

On Twitter Kyrgios addressed the Blue this way, “Sorry to hear these words great friend of mine. Glad you got out of it though! I’m here if you need anything.”

The Australian himself revealed in the past that he had gone through a period of depression, “I had distanced myself from family and close people.”
