Laver Cup, summoned

The names of the players who will take part in the Laver Cup are official.

The respective captains, Bjorn Borg and John McEnroe, have announced the final choices for the 2023 edition to be held at Rogers Arena in Vancouver from Sept. 22-24, 2023.

As for Team World, Tommy Paul, Francisco Cerundolo and Ben Shelton will join World No. 9 Taylor Fritz, World No. 10  Frances Tiafoe and No. 15 Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime on the “red” six-man team.

Europe, meanwhile, will also be able to count on Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz and recovering veteran Gael Monfils, in addition to the already announced Holger Rune, Casper Ruud, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Andrey Rublev.

Ilie Nastase meanwhile opened the book of memories in a lengthy interview with Gazzetta dello Sport, starting with the fact that è he was the first world number one: "There had long been talk of a ranking that would take into account results through the computer: until then, journalists decided it. When they introduced it, I was definitely in the best phase of my career, in 1973 I won 17 tournaments including Roland Garros. Yes, at that time I was the strongest in the world…. Usually the two things walk together: if you do great results, you go up in the rankings. But a player basically cares about winning.

"Any regrets about today’s earnings? Everyone lives in his own era. II tennis è has become a popular sport all over the world and attracts big sponsors, è right that players are involved in the business. If you think that before us, phenoms like Laver and Rosewall played for free… And in fact they went pro. And then maybe è it was better that in my time not too much money was going around: I would have spent it all on fines…

"Who ends the year at number one between Alcaraz and Djokovic? A great challenge, their final in Cincinnati è was exciting, but I have the feeling that Djokovic now cares more about wins in the big tournaments, he wants to definitely stretch Nadal in the Slams won.

Comment on Jannik Sinner: "I like him very much, he plays well, he has a good character. Definitely has the potential to go far, but right now approaching Alcaraz and Djokovic è very difficult".
