ATP Toronto: Sonego knocked out in opener against Andy Murray
Lorenzo Sonego’s adventure at the Toronto Masters 1000 comes to an immediate end. The Piedmontese tennis player had to surrender once again, six months after the Doha tournament, to Scottish tennis player Andy Murray. The former world number one won in two sets with a score of 7-6 6-0 in 2 hours and 8 minutes.
The first partial results were very balanced with many errors and few winners from both players. Then, in the tenth game, Lorenzo Sonego failed to materialize the two set points won. At the tie-break, the Italian, after having placed a minibreak, suffers the comeback of the Scot who places six consecutive points winning the first set with the score of 7-3. The second set began with a break by Murray, who took advantage of the Piedmontese tennis player’s numerous errors to close the file on 6-0 in just over thirty-five minutes.
In the second round, the former world number one will face the winner of the match between Auger-Aliassime and Purcell.
