In Montreal Jasmine Paolini overwhelmed by Jessica Pegula.
Bad awakening for Jasmine Paolini, who after benefiting from the withdrawal of U.S. Madison Keys was narrowly defeated in the round of 16 of the WTA 1000 in Montreal by the other U.S. Jessica Pegula, world number 3, with a score of 6-4 6-0.
Hopes of victory for the 27-year-old Tuscan from Bagni di Lucca, world number 49, were practically nonexistent since in the four previous direct confrontations she had not won a single set, and the course of today’s match confirmed this.
Pegula goes immediately up 3-0 in the first set and here Jasmine has the only gasp of the whole match recovering at 3-3. But from 4-4 the 29-year-old Buffalo native strung eight games in a row and the match ended after an hour and 9 minutes, sorry to say, of monologue.
