De Minaur after the knockout with Jannik Sinner: “Sometimes you just have to say it…”
Alex De Minaur commented on his loss to Jannik Sinner in the final in Toronto: “It was one of those days when you have to do everything perfectly. It’s not that I played so bad, it was mostly him being very good today,” the Australian admitted to the Sydney Morning Herald.
“I needed to raise my level and I couldn’t do it. Sometimes you really have to say ‘he’s too strong,’ but now I can see things clearly, I know I’m going in the right direction, my level is good.”
In his press conference, De Minaur analyzed the match, “He is one of the players who in the past has challenged me the most on clay because of the power of his shots. I think today he was better than me at following and imposing his game strategy: I tried to neutralize him, trying to maintain depth in my dribbling, taking control of the exchange, dictating the pace and continuing to attack him…. But today Sinner played at an extremely high level, keeping me under pressure at every turn of the serve.”
