Jannik Sinner, coach is clear on confrontation with Carlos Alcaraz
The words of Simone Vagnozzi
Jannik Sinner’s coach Simone Vagnozzi spoke to Sky Sport 24 about his student’s success in the Toronto Masters 1000: “The first match against Berrettini was very important because it was won against a player with great depth on fast courts and also with good confidence.”
However, the coach of the South Tyrolean preaches calmness: “There is still a lot to do and that is the positive aspect. He has important margins and, despite this, he is close to the top-5 ranking, he has won 8 tournaments, including a 1000. This is the aspect that gives us the most comfort.”
“The serve has improved, but he has to learn to manage it and to vary it better,” the Italian coach analyzed. Tactically, sometimes he can make some more variations. Basically, there are still things to fine-tune, but Jannik is so strong that he has already won a lot.”
On the comparison with Alcaraz: “Sinner does not start off beaten against anyone, but I believe he has a different path from Carlos who, despite being two years younger, is already ahead technically and physically. Definitely, getting to the bottom of tournaments can give you more awareness.”
“The most important thing will be to recover mental energy and adapt to conditions that are different from Toronto. The first round will be important to see if and how much he will have been able to turn the page,” concluded Vagnozzi, ahead of Cincinnati.
