Daniil Medvedev is a black beast: Lorenzo Musetti eliminated in Cincinnati
New defeat with the one who increasingly resembles a black beast.
Lorenzo Musetti still knocked out against Daniil Medvedev. The Carrarese leaves the Cincinnati Masters 1000 already in the round of 16, beaten by the Russian in two sets (6-3, 6-2) after less than an hour and a half of play. The same opponent had already ousted him from the Toronto Masters 1000 in as many sets, but in that case by the score of 6-4, 6-4 and after a far more open challenge.
The confrontation seemed to go well for Musetti, who was able to break his opponent’s serve already in the first game of the first set. Medvedev, however, immediately evened the score and came close to 3-3 after a game of as many as 14 points and a break point that the Italian cancelled. The break instead came two games later and proved decisive. Musetti also failed to respond in the second set, in which Medvedev’s break points nullified were three in the third game alone. The next two service turns for the Tuscan, however, both go to the Russian, who in just over half an hour closes the accounts.
In the opening match of his Masters 1000 in Cincinnati, on the other hand, a comfortable victory had come for Musetti, who won 6-4 6-3 over Britain’s Daniel Evans in a match that was always led and lasted less than an hour and a half.
