Jannik Sinner, birthday in the field
Jannik Sinner in Cincinnati
Birthday in Cincinnati for Jannik Sinner, set to debut in the local Masters 1000 as world No. 6.
The South Tyrolean, fresh off his first Masters 1000 triumph in Toronto, as a 22-year-old will face Serbian qualifier Dusan Lajovic, who eliminated Argentine Francisco Cerundolo, No. 21 ATP.
The match will be the second scheduled on the Grandstand and thus should be played around Italian dinner time, barring unforeseen circumstances.
Rafael Nadal predicted earlier this year that Jannik Sinner would win his first career Masters 1000 in 2023.
In an interview with ATP Tour channels in February, Nadal was clear about Sinner’s chances: “Who will win his first Masters 1000 this year? Sinner. He’s close by now, he’s young, he’s growing up and he has the right potential…why not,” the Manacor-based tennis player had said, hitting the prediction dead center.
In addition to Nadal, Lorenzo Musetti had also gotten the prediction right, answering the same question, “I think Jannik will win it because he deserves it, he is playing very well.”
Nadal and Jannik Sinner have faced each other three times in their careers, and the Spaniard 22 times winner of a Slam tournament has always come out on top.
