Filippo Ganna will run the Vuelta 2023

After the resounding gold in the individual pursuit and the silvers in the team pursuit and the road time trial, obtained in the rainbow event concluded a few days ago in Glasgow, Filippo Ganna is already ready for a new challenge: in fact, the name of the man from Verbania is among the eight components of the Ineos Grenadiers for the Vuelta a España 2023.

Ganna will be a teammate of Geraint Thomas (captain), Egan Bernal, Thymen Arensman, Laurens de Plus, Jonathan Castroviejo, Omar Fraile and Kim Hejduk. The blue champion’s stated goal is the Valladolid individual time trial, scheduled for Sept. 5.

The Vuelta a España 2023 will start on Saturday, August 26, with a team time trial through the streets of Barcelona, ending with the final catwalk at Madrid’s Paseo del Prado on Sunday, September 17. There will be two encroachments, in the Principality of Andorra (third and fourth stages) and in France (thirteenth and fourteenth stages, the first of the two with finishes on the Tourmalet).

Last year it was Remco Evenepoel who won the Spanish stage race, 2’02” ahead of Enric Mas and 4’57” ahead of Juan Ayuso. Rather disappointing edition for the Italian colors: no stage victory, only satisfaction the red jersey worn by Edoardo Affini at the conclusion of the third stage.
