Leif Shiras out of the teeth on Jannik Sinner.

Former U.S. tennis player Leif Shiras in an interview with Tennis Channel’s Inside-In podcast praised Jannik Sinner, casting him as one of the favorites ahead of the upcoming Us Open.

“His match he won against Carlos Alcaraz in Miami was perhaps the best match of the year, such a brilliant match that reminded me of the challenges between Sampras and Agassi, because of the points they were making,” Shiras argued.

“I think he’s following the right path. He’s won before, at Wimbledon against Djokovic he had his chance, he’s figuring out how to perform against the bigger players. They say you can’t win a Slam if you haven’t won a Masters 1000 first right? Well, now that he has succeeded he is more ready than ever.”

Jannik Sinner will be the No. 6 seed in the Flushing Meadows tournament draw, which kicks off at the end of the month.
