Larissa Iapichino breaks down in tears after World Cup disappointment

Medal missed by 6 centimeters: great disappointment for Larissa Iapichino, who arrived in Budapest among the big favorites for the long jump event at the 2023 World Athletics Championships.

The Azzurra, back from a great season where she had won three times in the Diamond League, after a first nil failed to go beyond the measure of 6.82, 6 centimeters from third place, and ended her final in tears. Gold went to Ivana Vuleta of Serbia, silver to Tara Davis-Woodhall of the United States, and bronze to Alina Rotaru-Kottman of Romania.

“I shot myself in the foot and mismanaged the race, I could have missed a few races this year and I missed just this one,” the Azzurra told the microphones of Rai Sport.

“At the last jump I found the shock but too late, if I had found it earlier I could have fixed something,” she concluded. Now the focus shifts to the Paris 2024 Olympics.
