Gianmarco Tamberi and Marco Fassinotti qualified for the high jump final at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest. Eliminated, however, was the third Italian national competing, Stefano Sottile.
The judges admitted 13 athletes, instead of the usual 12, to the medal challenge (next Tuesday), that is, all those who cleared the bar at the 2.28 measurement, surpassed only on the third and final attempt by the Tokyo Olympic champion.
As for the other Azzurri engaged in morning qualifying, Davide Re entered the semifinals of the 400 meters, fourth in his battery with 45.07 but qualified on the basis of times. Double blue pass in the 400 hurdles batteries: qualifying were Alessandro Sibilio and Mario Lambrughi.
In her third and final attempt, Italian record-holder Daisy Osakue nailed the women’s discus qualification with a 12th place finish, the last useful one.
