Finally a great Italy in the men’s 4×100 relay. In the semifinals of the World Championships in Budapest Roberto Rigali, Marcell Jacobs, Lorenzo Patta and Filippo Tortu won with a time of 37”65.
15 hundredths more than they ran for Tokyo Olympic gold (37”50) for the Azzurri and 2 hundredths better than the United States, which won the first semifinal in 37”67. Also doing well were Jamaica, 37”68, Japan, 37”71, and South Africa, second behind Italy in 37”72. Out went Canada, which did not field Andre De Grasse, who was engaged in the 200 final.
