Ferrari, Sainz: "We have to work for next year"
Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz spoke at a press conference in Monza ahead of the Italian GP: "We know what our goals are and what we did wrong with the car this year, and there are the aspects that we drivers and the rest of the team don't like. So our goal for next year is to study the behavior of the car, and that is why we are in Maranello every day to be able to work, even in the simulator".
On the possibilitiesà of the Cavallino: "I think there are some circuits where the problems emerge more clearly than others, for example, in Austin we went strong throughout the weekend, on a track where we also managed degradation very well, as well as Spa, where the car è adapted very well. In other cases, like Barcelona, you could see the problems we had from Friday until the race, soì like in Hungary in Zandvoort. Here in Monza it should be better, since è a track where normally there isn’t much wind, there aren’t long corners, and I’m quite optimistic. However, this year we thought we would go strong on certain circuits and that è did not happen, so I prefer not to talk about it anymore.
Sainz è ahead of Leclerc in the overall standings: "Now è irrelevant, even more so in a season where we are not fighting for the world championship. The number one goal this year is to put together all the data we accumulate during testing to improve next year’s car, even if that means sacrificing Fridays like Zandvoort to study airflow or rear wing behavior. These are things that can compromise results on a weekend or at the end of the year, but the important thing is to keep working on the car and experiment with new elements that can help next year’s car.
