Lewis Hamilton renews with Mercedes
Lewis Hamilton has renewed with Mercedes. Here ends the soap opera related to the seven-time world champion. To make it official è was the same Anglo-German team through an official statement.
"The Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 team è pleased to announce that Lewis Hamilton and George Russell will remain the starting drivers for the next two seasons" reads the note issued by the Brackley-based stable.
"The two have been partnering since’the start of the 2022 season and both carry on long-standing relationships with the team. Lewis will drive for the team in the 2024 and 2025 seasons and will carry on a historic relationship that has secured six World Drivers’ Championships and eight World Constructors’ Championships. Since è joining the official team Lewis has achieved 82 wins and 78 pole positions making him the most successful driver in the history of the sport. The extension ensures the continuation of the most successful team-driver pair in Formula 1 history until at least the 13th° year. George extended until the end of the 2025 season a relationship that began in 2017. The then-18-year-old joined the team's junior program before moving up to F1. After racing for Williams è he was promoted to partner with Lewis Hamilton in 2022 and scored his first win in last year"’s Brazilian Grand Prix.
"We dream every day of being the best, and we have dedicated the last ten years to achieving this goal all together,” Hamilton emphasized. Getting to the top does not happen overnight or in a short period of time, it takes commitment, hard work and dedication andè it was an honor to enter the history books with this incredible team. We have never been so hungry to win. We have learned from every success but also from every setback. We keep chasing our dreams, we keep fighting no matter what the challenge and we will win again. I am grateful to the team that has supported me both on and off the track. Our story is not è over, we are determined to achieve more together and we will not stop until we do".
"I have grown with this team since I joined the junior program in 2017. È my home and è it’s great to extend our special relationship through 2025,” commented Russell.” After climbing into the Mercedes seat last year I wanted to reward the trust and belief that Toto and the rest of the team placed in me. Winning my first pole position and winning a race last year è was an unforgettable feeling. Even more important forò è è was working with everyone at Brackley and Brixworth to make progress with our car and continue our development. Their loyalty, vision and hard work is an inspiration. We have made some significant strides in the last 18 months and are getting stronger as a team. I am excited to help continue to build on this momentum as we approach 2024 and 2025, as we continue to focus on returning to the top of the group".
"Continuing with our current driver lineup è was an easy decision,” the words of team principal Toto Wolff. “We have the strongest pair on the grid and both drivers are playing a crucial role in moving the team forward. The strength and stability they provide will be critical to our future success. Our partnership with Lewis è one of the most successful è in the history of the sport. The fact that we would continue together è always been a formality and è challenging for all of us to confirm this publicly. His qualities as a pure racing driver are illustrated by his record, but over our years together è he has grown to become a pillar and leader of our team. These leadership qualities are crucial as we refocus on fighting for world championships. Being F1 s biggest global star has also played a key role in shaping our commitments to diversity, inclusion and sustainability, which will form the foundation of our success in the years to come. George è one of the beacons of his generation. He has repaid the trust we have shown in him by promoting him to an official driver position in 2022. His first pole position in Hungary and his first victory in a GP in Sao Paulo were extraordinary moments last season. As a driver he combines sharp speed with the tenacity of a real fighter. But he also brings an intelligence and attention to detail that will help him continue to grow, develop and improve further. È a natural choice for the team and we are pleased to have extended the relationship for the next few years".
