Andrea Lucchetta è lapidary on Paola Egonu

Former Italian national volleyball player Andrea Lucchetta in an interview with Il Giornale spoke about the case of Paola Egonu, who will not participate in the pre-Olympic volleyball tournament after spending more time on the bench than on the court under the orders of Davide Mazzanti.

"Actually, there's no case, because é the facts say that it was Paola who chose not to go to the pre-Olympic and take another rest period, after last year&#39s. This denotes an underlying fragility, technical and especially psychological, even compared to other stars on the international scene".

"The problem starts from afar, already from the approach that she è been given since she took off from Club Italia. Egonu è a heritage of our volleyball, and as such must be preserved. And to do so, she must be clearly told what she must improve in, what she must do and especially what she must not do. It's the athletes'destiny to be evaluated on their journey both technically and for their attitude on the court. Then there are personal choices, for which everyone takes responsibility. But when the national team calls, one must always respond present".

Paola Egonu, love broken again

Antropova seems to be the future of this Italy: "A talent like her has to play, also becauseé she has shown that she has the will to eat ground, in all the fundamentals. And if citizenship had come sooner, we probably would have seen a different Italy at the European. But in perspective I think she and Egonu can coexist and play together".
