Vuelta, Alberto Dainese beats Filippo Ganna
Italy shines in the 19th stage of the Vuelta, which ended in Íscar. È the second success for our country: a flat stage with a predictable sprint and winner è Alberto Dainese. The day's breakaway developed early in the stage, with four men on the attack: Clement Davy (Groupama – FDJ), Paul Lapeira (AG2R Citroën Team), Mathis Le Berre (Team Arkéa Samsic) and Michal Schlegel (Caja Rural – Seguros RGA). The peloton managed the breakaway, keeping the attackers in check without allowing them to take too much of a lead.
With about 30 kilometers to go, the peloton increased its pace and caught up with the attackers after the flying finish line. Soon after, Samuele Battistella (Astana Qazaqstan) tried to launch a counterattack, but without being able to gain much ground.
The finish è was tense, with a crash taking out favorite Kaden Groves (Alpecin-Deceuninck). The Ineos Grenadiers team did an outstanding job for Filippo Ganna: the time trial phenomenon è launched himself very well in the sprint, perhaps anticipating the timing a bit, but è was overtaken at the last centimeter by a super Alberto Dainese (Team DSM – Firmenich). The order of finish è was outstanding for Italy, with Marijn van den Berg (EF Education-EasyPost) taking third place and Davide Cimolai (Cofidis) fourth.
