European time trial: no Filippo Ganna, Joshua Tarling wins
Britain’s 19-year-old Joshua Tarling won the Elite individual time trial race at the European Road Cycling Championships in the Netherlands.
Tarling, who had been bronze in the same specialty at the World Championships, was 42" ahead of defending continental champion Stefan Bissegger of Switzerland, silver, and 43" Belgium’s Wout Van Aert, third.
Filippo Ganna, a time trial specialist, did not take part in this race because he preferred to focus on the road race this time, so the best of the Italians è was Mattia Cattaneo, who finished in fifth place. Twentieth l'latro azzurro Matteo Sobrero.
In the women's event, gold went to 32-year-old Swiss Marlen Reusser, in her third European concsecutive title, who finished ahead of Britain's Anna Henderson (silver) and Austria's Christina Schweinberger (bronze). Twentieth was Italy's Vittoria Guazzini.
