From the last round of the qualifications of the Shanghai ATP tournament, in particular from the match between Marc Polmans and Stefano Napolitano, comes an episode that has the resounding: the Australian athlete was in fact disqualified just a step away from success, after wasting a match point on 7-6(3), 6-6.
Just after failing to close out the match in his favor, Polmans reacted with a gesture of annoyance, hitting the ball that però reached the chair judge. Inevitably, the disqualification and victory by forfeit for Napolitano, who thus inscribes his name in the main draw of the Chinese Masters 1000 in a rocambolic manner.
Napolitano, born in Biella on April 11, 1995, occupies the number 253 position in the ATP ranking. He has won two singles tournaments in his career (the Herzliya Futures and the Ortisei Challenger in 2016), while at Slam level he boasts an appearance in the main draw at Roland Garros 2017, where he also reached the second round.
