Pre-Olympic, Italvolley knocked out: path becomes difficult
Busting setback for the Azzurri
After three wins against the Czech Republic, Qatar and Ukraine, comes the first setback for men's volleyball Italy in the qualifying tournament for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. In Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the Azzurri of Fefè De Giorgi surrendered to an increasingly surprising Germany, which was able to win 3 sets to 1 with partials of 26-24, 18-25, 25-20 and 25-23.
Not good news for Simone Giannelli and his teammates, who will no longer have to miss a beat in the last three matches of the round, against Iran, Cuba and Brazil, if they want to secure one of the two places up for grabs for the Olympic tournament that will represent the climax of next summer’s international volleyball.
From the point of view of scoring, Yuri Romanò's 16 points, Alessandro Michieletto's 14, Daniele Lavia's 12 and Gianluca Galassi's 10 stand out. On the other side, however, as many as 31 points were scored by a dominant Gyorgy Grozer, captain of the Teutonic selection.
Next appointment for Italy, then, on Oct. 6 against Iran, which in previous matches lost sharply to Ukraine (0-3), before taking revenge against Qatar, the group’s Cinderella defeated by the Iranians 3 sets to 1.
