GranPiemonte, Andrea Bagioli wins

Andrea Bagioli, a Soudal Quick-Step rider, won Thursday the 107th edition of GranPiemonte, a 152-kilometer race starting in Borgofranco d'Ivrea and finishing in Favria. The 24-year-old ruled at the finish, in a tight sprint, Marc Hirschi (UAE Team Emirates) and Alex Aranburu Deba (Movistar Team).

Guillaume Martin (Cofidis), who shared the breakaway with the podium finishers, è was disqualified after the finish for "non-compliant bicycle position" therefore; Filippo Ganna (Ineos Grenadiers), who ruled the sprint of the chasers, finished the race on the Piedmont roads in fifth place.

"I didn’t expect to win, but I knew I was in good shape,” Bagioli told the official channels of 'RCS Sport', organizer of the race. “My teammates did a good job to get back on the breakaway. I am about to leave the team, so it è nice to finish with a victory at the end of the season here in my country".

Class of 1999, Bagioli è his third success of the season: in addition to the GranPiemonte, in fact, he è won the fifth stage of the Tour of Wallonia and the third stage of the Okolo Slovenska. Those he is racing at this stage of the season are the last races in the Soudal Quick-Step jersey: next year, in fact, Bagioli will race in the Lidl-Trek.
