Giro di Lombardia, historic trio for Tadej Pogacar: “A dream come true”
Tadej Pogacar wins the Giro di Lombardia for the third time in a row
It's triumph again for Tadej Pogacar at the Giro di Lombardia. The Slovenian rider of UAE Team Emirates has in fact won the 177th edition of the end-of-season classic, which he had already won in 2021 and 2022. At the end of the 238-kilometer-long race starting in Como and finishing in Bergamo, Pogacar preceded Andrea Bagioli (Soudal Quick-Step) and Primoz Roglic (Jumbo-Visma).
Pogacar’s è a historic success: until this morning, only Alfredo Binda (four total successes) and Fausto Coppi (five) had won the Giro di Lombardia at least three times in a row (the Campionissimo even achieved four consecutive victories), and the same two legends are the only ones ahead of the Slovenian in the roll of honor, which sees Pogacar joining such past champions as Henri Pelissier, Costante Girardengo, Gaetano Belloni, Gino Bartali, Sean Kelly and Damiano Cunego.
"To win for the third time in my third participation, and to do it for the second time here in Bergamo, è a dream come true,” Pogacar told the channels of 'RCS Sport' -. I wanted to get there alone, but at the same time I feared Alexander Vlasov because he was one of the strongest today. The moment I saw that I gained a few meters, I insisted on the descent. In the finale I had a cramp problem in my right leg and I thought I was going to crash, but I managed to recover. It's a splendid victory".
