Camila Giorgi, no Billie Jean King Cup: Tathiana Garbin explains.
Tathiana Garbin explains Camila Giorgi's absence
Day of summonses, for Tathiana Garbin, ahead of the final phase of the Billie Jean King Cup, the women’s equivalent of the Davis Cup: the Italian captain chose Lucia Bronzetti, Elisabetta Cocciaretto, Jasmine Paolini, Lucrezia Stefanini and Martina Trevisan. Absent is the current Italian number 1, Camila Giorgi, on whose nonconvocation è Garbin herself intervened.
"We are very sorry that Giorgi will not be able to be with us – said the former tennis player to the official channels of the Federation, explaining the absence of the Marche player – Unfortunately, for some time, Camila è struggling with a nagging foot problem that does not allow her to train as she would like".
Confidence, however, in those who will be there: "The path will not be easy and the pitfalls many – said Garbin – but I am convinced that we will be able to deal with them as best we can. For us it will be the second consecutive participation in the Finals and the experience gained last year in Glasgow will serve us to do even better in Seville. The feelings can only be positive about this trip: every time our girls come to the national team, they manage to go beyond their limits, by virtue of the’love and respect they have for this jersey, for the’pride they feel in’wearing it".
The final phase of the Billie Jean King Cup will be played from Tuesday, Nov. 7 to Sunday, Nov. 12 in the Andalusian city: Italy is placed in Group D with France and Germany and can only aim for first place, the only one useful for advancing to the semifinals.
