Martina Trevisan è into the semifinals in the WTA 250 on the cement in Hong Kong. The 29-year-old Florentine, world number 42, who has not come this far in a major circuit tournament since Roland Garros in 2022, beat Belgian Elise Mertens, who is one position ahead of her in the rankings, 6-4 6-3 in just under an hour and a half.

After losing the first gae, Trevisan flew out to a 4-1 lead with a double break, immediately losing one of two after a very long sixth game but holding the rest of the lead until she pocketed the first set.

Also in the second Martina sets off with a rocket flying to 5-0 even with triple break, suffers three conseutive games losing two serves and missing a match point on her own serve on 5-2 but in the ninth game operates yet another break that gives her the match.

In the semifinals Trevisan will face the winner between Czech Katerina Siniakova and Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.
