"I am very sorry that I will not be able to be on the court in Stockholm as I had planned,” said the Italian, as quoted on the tournament's official page. “I have been told that the tournament and the city are fantastic. I am very sorry that I was not able to fully recover from the injury".
He was echoed the director of the BNP Paribas Nordic Open, Thomas Enqvist: "It's a big disappointment for us and of course for Matteo, who has worked hard to get back in condition and return to the court in Stockholm, where he was going to play for the first time".
Berrettini's return is expected to slip by a week, as the Italian is reportedly registered for the Vienna ATP 500, scheduled to begin Oct. 23.
