Leylah Fernandez triumphs in Hong Kong, Jessica Pegula in Seoul
The WTA 250 women’s tournaments in Hong Kong and d Seoul, both outdoor sucements, ended with two North American victories.
In the prmo, Canada’s Leylah Fernandez, a finalist at the 2021 US Open, è returned to success after more than a year by winning her third WTA tournament by beating after more than two and a half hours of battle with a score of 3-6 6-4 6-4 Czech Katerina Siniakova, who had gotten the better of Martina Trevisan in the semifinals.
Fourth success on the major circuit and second of the season for U.S. Jessica Pegula, world No. 4, who beat No. 128, China’s Yue Yuan, 6-2 6-3 in an hour and 25 minutes of play in the final in the South Korean capital.
With this victory Pegula confirms her position in the world rankings while Fernandez makes a big jump from No. 60 to No. 43.
