Luciano Spalletti doesn’t lower his head: ‘We can trust this Italy’
The knockout does not scare the technical commissioner.
Luciano Spalletti believes in his Italy. The coach spoke clearly after the 3-1 loss at Wembley, on the night when, moreover, the Azzurri had momentarily taken the lead. The London defeat, however, drops them back to third place in Group C of the qualifiers toward Euro 2024, -3 behind Ukraine (which, however, played an extra game). In fact, the coach from Certaldo said he is confident of leading a group capable of overcoming the current difficulties.
"We can trust this group,” Spalletti said in fact to the microphones of 'Sky Sport' -They will not convince me to believe or not to believe that we can propose important soccer. Or that Italy can aspire to comparisons like this in stadiums like this. Today then a few things we did wrong, and in some moments we were a bit superficial. They are a rank team and they won".
However, Spalletti ensured that he learned something about his Italy on Wembley night: "We tried to always press and play the game with an open face. In this continuity of the open face, however, we lost some duels and some distance. They took theì their advantages".
"At this level, soccer demands these things here. We lost a few too many physical duels, we were limp on some contrasts and we paid dearly for it", Spalletti concluded.
