Italy, too many defections: for Luciano Spalletti a new convocation

With defections, also comes a new summons in extremis.

Manuel Lazzari joins the national team, in training camp in Coverciano before the challenges against North Macedonia and Ukraine, decisive for the race toward Euro 2024. As many as four Azzurri are forced to leave their teammates due to injuries of various kinds. Soì technical commissioner Luciano Spalletti has decided to convene another.

The Lazio player will join Italy already at Coverciano, with a view to possible use against North Macedonia in the match in Rome next Friday evening. The absentees, however, are goalkeeper Meret, defender Toloi, midfielder Locatelli and flanker Calabria. Precisely the latter can be considered the Azzurri with the closest role to Lazzari. Cambiaso, moreover, is also not è at his best.

In the press conference, in the hours before Lazzari’s call-up, coach Spalletti had dwelt on the non-call-up of Ciro Immobile: "I don’t discourage anyone. We consider him a very important footballer, whom we always follow with total attention like all footballers. We go to see the matches, the training sessions, although at Lazio I have not been yet. At this moment here it seemed to me that the other three strikers I summoned were in a better condition, although in the Champions League he did well, he scored a great goal and I congratulated him when I spoke".
