Sofia Goggia sixth in the first time trial of the women’s Speed Opening
Austria, Germany, a little bit of Switzerland and d’Italy. These seem to be the pretender nations for success in the first edition of the women’s Zermatt-Cervinia. The race staged today, under cloudy skies but with no wind, saw Austrian Christina Ager excel with a time of 1’35″81, ahead of 23-year-old teammate Emily Schoepf, who started with 51, by 24 hundredths. Then Germany’s Kira Weidle at 77 hundredths, 86 hundredths ahead of fellow Austrian Christine Scheyer and 93 hundredths better than Switzerland’s Corinne Suter. Sofia Goggia è at 1″27 tied with Germany’s Emma Aicher, but the Bergamasque è started out very relaxed, without pushing on the accelerator, and then closed the race on a crescendo.
C’è to note that the track è sped up as the athletes passed, so much so that those who è came down with even very high bibs achieved excellent times.
Very good performance also for Nicol Delago who crossed the finish line 1″46 behind the best, while Federica Brignone è at 2″04. Good performance by 21-year-old Vicky Bernardi, who limited the gap to within 2″27 from the top, despite wearing bib 56. Also doing well was 24-year-old Teresa Runggaldier from Val Gardena, who with 55 è crossed the finish line at 2″47. Laura Pirovano stopped the stopwatch at 2″81 behind, followed by Nadia Delago at 2″88, Elena Dolmen at 2″98, Marta Bassino at 3″05, and Elena Curtoni at 3″37. Further back Monica Zanoner at 5″14 and Karoline Pichler at 5″24. Roberta Melesi did not start.
For Friday; è the third and final round is scheduled with start at 11:45 a.m.
