MotoGP, Qatar: Di Giannantonio mocks Bagnaia in Qatar. Marini closes an all-Italian podium, Martin only tenth
Fabio Di Giannantonio wins the Qatar Grand Prix, taking his first victory in the premier class. The Team Gresini centaur mocks the Ducati of Pecco Bagnaia with an overtaking move with four laps to go. The Piedmontese rider, who until then had dominated the race, has to settle for second place, ahead of the Ducati of the Mooney VR46 Racing Team of Luca Marini, who closes an all-Italian podium.
Completing the Top 5 were the Aprilia of Maverick Vinales and the KTM of Brad Binder. Then Alex Marquez, Fabio Quartararo, Enea Bastianini and Jack Miller. Only tenth Jorge Martin, conditioned by a bad start and tire problems.
Pecco Bagnaia thus stretches to +21 on Jorge Martin in the overall standings. If Pecco were to gain another 4 points on Martin in the Sprint of the Grand Prix of Valencia, scheduled for next weekend, he would graduate world champion already Saturday.
