Lienz, Federica Brignone wants to try again
The words of Federica Brignone
It's all set in Lienz (Aut) for the women's World Cup giant slalom, the fifth round of the season among the wide gates, scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 28 (first run at 10 a.m., second at 1 p.m. with live TV coverage on Raisport and Eurosport). The seven Italian women racers entered (Federica Brignone, Marta Bassino, Sofia Goggia, Roberta Melesi, Lara Della Mea, Laura Pirovano, Asja Zenere and Elisa Platino) skied on the eve of the event in Toblach, because the race course was not available to the athletes.
Federica Brignone, second in the overall and specialty rankings, è is ready to go again to the assault of the podium in the specialty that this year gave her two victories (in Tremblant), a second place in Soelden and a sixth in Killington. "Every race has history to sè and è it is useless to make comparisons with the past – the words of the Aosta Valley skier, reported by FISI -. In Lienz I have always been comfortable, I come to the gate full of good hopes but with the knowledge that to get to the front you have to push and risk the right amount. This time I will also takeò part in the slalom of veerdì, è a specialtyà that I enjoy even if I have little time to be able to train with continuityà between the narrow poles".
Marta Bassino, queen of the specialtyà in 2021, goes after the first podium of the season. "It’ a varied track, where you find a bit’ of everything, from flat to steeper pieces. We will see during the morning reconnaissance what we will find, so far I è only missed the result, I am skiing well. The difference in the end is the’attitude on the slope, we are a nice little group that can’play for victory, we must be printe to take the’opportunity’".
Sogfia Goggia, on the other hand, is chasing her fifth top-sixteen finish in a row to continue her ascent in the giant slalom as well. "The path taken in the giant is bearing fruit – she explained -. Instead, from the point of view of speed, I had a solid start but not as bright as in previous years, I think it was also dictated by a different calendar and training. In’early January we will do a good block of work to get to the top in the downhill as well. Physically I feel better than in St. Moritz and Val d’Isère, where I was a little bit affected and when you have some little health problems, you inevitably pay for it. I feel better now, I hope to make it to the end of the season at a high level. Doing multiple disciplines gives you a different intensity over the course of the year, last season for the hand injury I had spent a month just thinking about recovery, practicing giant gives you a higher intensity even in the fast disciplines, it allows me to express myself at a high level in both downhill and supergiant”.
