Storic silver for Lorenzo Marsaglia and Giovanni Tocci
From the pool of Doha, where the 2024 World Championships are being held, comes thanks to a historic result in diving, the first Italian medal of the event: it was won by Lorenzo Marsaglia and Giovanni Tocci, who took second place, and therefore silver, in the 3-meter springboard synchro, thus grabbing the best rainbow result at the men’s level in diving.
The Italian duo achieved an overall score of 384.24, second only to the unreachable score of China's Wang Zongyuan and Long Daoyi, who won the gold medal with 442.41. The bronze è went instead to the Spanish pair consisting of Adrian Abadia and Nicolas Garcia Boissier, who finished with an overall score of 383.28.
Today’s result ensures that Lorenzo Marsaglia and Giovanni Tocci will be able to compete, in the same specialty, in the Olympic competition in Paris 2024. In addition to being the best Italian result in the men's event, it also equals the best overall result, as Tania Cagnotto and Francesca Dallapé had come to the rainbow silver in 2009 and 2013.
Speaking of women's competition, è important the result obtained always on Sunday by Sarah Jodoin di Maria and Maia Biginelli, who thanks to their respective qualifications to the semifinals of platform diving (respectively with the fourth and eighteenth best score) won in turn the coveted pass for the Games next summer.
