Sixth World Cyclocross Championship for Mathieu van der Poel

Mathieu van der Poel è now synonymous with cyclocross: the Dutch athlete è confirmed in fact in the race valid for World 2024, raced in Tabor (Czech Republic), the rainbow title won last year in Hoogerheide and è arrived at a total of six gold medals won, from 2015 to date, in the world review of the discipline.

Best Italian at the finish line was Filippo Fontana, who finished in 17th place with a gap of 3'35".

It was in Tabor that the Dutch champion had won his first world title, in 2015. He had then also won rainbow gold in Bogense (Denmark) in 2019, Dübendorf (Switzerland) in 2020, Ostend (Belgium) in 2021 and Hoogerheide (Netherlands) in 2023. At the world championships, he boasts two other golds at the Junior level, an Under-23 bronze, a silver and a bronze at the Elite level.

The one won on Sunday è overall, the tenth world title in Van der Poel’s career: in addition to six Elite and two Junior cyclo-cross World Championships, in fact, the Dutchman also won two golds at the Road World Championships, in Florence in 2013 and Glasgow last year: in the coming months, therefore, he will continue to wear the rainbow jersey in both road racing and cyclo-cross.
