World Swimming Championships: Alessandro Miressi d'silver, Alberto Razzetti bronze
Alessandro Miressi won a fantastic silver in the 100 freestyle at the World Championships in Doha, beaten only by the formidable Chinese and newly world record holder (46"80 in the first leg of the 4×100 freestyle) Pan Zhanie, who overtook him in the last ten meters, and finished in 47"53. The 25-year-old from Turin and Italian record holder (47"45) swam in 47"72, hitting his first individual rainbow medal. The bronze è by Hungary's Nandor Nemeth in 47"78.
The Italian, who brought Italy back to the world podium in the 100 freestyle after 17 years (the last one was Filippo Magnini's gold in Melbourne 2007, ed.), commented on his second place to RAI microphones this way: "I am happy with my individual rainbow medal. The time objectively does not satisfy me, if I had swum my Italian record, I would have won".
Alberto Razzetti è bronze in the 200 medley, for another rainbow medal after the silver, embellished by the third Olympic Card, on Wednesday in the 200 butterfly. A comeback and magnificent final for the 24-year-old from Genoa, who finished in 1'57"42. Canadian Finlay Knox won – bronze medalist in the short-tub at Melbourne 2022 – in 1'56"64, second è U.S. Carson Forster in 1'56"97.
"I am happy, the medal was not a foregone conclusion – Razzetti told Rai – I knew it would be a difficult race, I was more relaxed than in the 200 butterfly final. For the feelings I had before the Worlds I am better than I thought. Winning one medal was important, two è incredible".
